Internet cafe

Internet cafés are a natural evolution of the traditional café. Cafés started as places for information exchange, and have always been used as places to read the paper, send postcards home, play traditional or electronic games, chat to friends, find out local information. Cafés have also been in the forefront of promoting new technologies, for example, the car in 1950s California.

As internet access is in increasing demand, many pubs, bars and cafes have terminals, so the distinction between the Internet cafe and normal café is eroded. In some, particularly European countries, the number of pure Internet cafés is decreasing since more and more normal cafés offer the same services. However, there are European countries where the total number of publicly accessible terminals is also decreasing. An example of such a country is Germany. The cause of this development is a combination of complicated regulation, relatively high internet penetration rates, the widespread use of notebooks and PDAs and the relatively high number of WLAN hotspots. Many pubs, bars and cafés in Germany offer WLAN, but no terminals since the Internet café regulations do not apply if no terminal is offered. Additionally, the use of Internet cafés for multiplayer gaming is very difficult in Germany since the Internet cafe regulations and a second type of regulations which was originally established for video arcade centers applies to this kind of Internet cafes. It is, for example, forbidden for people under the age of 18 to enter such an Internet café, although particularly people under 18 are an important group of customers for this type of Internet café.

While most Internet cafés are private businesses many have been set up to help bridge the 'digital divide', providing computer access and training to those without home access. For example, the UK government has supported the setting up of 6000 telecentres.

RSS Feeds

RSS content syndication is a relatively new member of the internet marketing family of campaign options. And, it seems as though new uses for RSS content are coming about very quickly. This is possibly due to recent changes in the way that major search engines like Yahoo! and Google want web site owners to advertise.

It seems like it shouldn't matter to the search engines - the way you choose to market your website. But, it does when your link popularity begins to fall due to too many links on irrelevant web directories, etc. With RSS content syndication, you will not face that problem. And the better your content, the better the chances of increasing your standing with the search engines (not to mention your site visitors).

RSS feeds are no longer just appearing on the large news sites in order to show the latest headlines. They are appearing on internet-enabled cell phones, PDA and other mobile devices. The reason this is possible is the simple XML format used to produce the RSS feed. By using RSS syndication to spread the word about your site, you are now using one of the best advertising methods for reaching the "non-traditional" web browsers installed on these mobile devices.

Anyone familiar with web directory will understand the approach recommended for RSS syndication that I will term "many doors." The many doors approach means that you are providing several different headlines for the SAME article! If you have done directory submissions, or worked with a directory submission service this is what you provided for anchor text and site descriptions.

So, you can see that while some level of time investment will be required... you will no longer need to generate huge numbers of SEO content in order to "trick" the search engines. As a matter of fact, you will probably want to concentrate your efforts on providing a few high-quality relevant articles that will gain and keep the attention of your site visitors.

You will need to generate content an update your website frequently if you want your RSS content syndication technique to be an effective form of marketing. Why?

The answer is simple, but often overlooked by those publishing RSS content for syndication. When site visitors become accustomed to looking at an RSS feed for teasers about new information they can use, and they notice that there have not been any new additions for a while they stop looking. If you decide that RSS content syndication is a good marketing tool for your site, understand that you are committing a small amount of time in order to draw and keep your web site traffic.

Broadband Vs. Broaderband

Almost 90% of internet users in the UK use a broadband connection, with average speeds of 2-8 Mbps. But because of technology becoming more and more advanced, such speeds may soon be too slow. Fortunately, there are new systems being developed which could deliver super-fast broadband to our homes.

The first is the use of fibre optics instead of the current copper cables. These fibres can carry speeds between 50Mbps and 100Mbps both upstream and downstream, meaning that uploading files to your online storage could be just as fast as downloading media from a website. Fibre optic systems can be expensive, in the region of £15 billion, but it could well be a reality in a few years.

VDSL (Very high speed Digital Subscriber Line) is a cheaper option which combines the use of optics with copper. VDSL can handle high bandwidth applications like VoIP and HDTV, as well as general internet access. Rolling out VDSL across the country will involve building 90,000 cabinets to house the cables at street level and will give users speeds of around 30Mbps

Wi-Fi has been available in the UK for some time, but the next generation, WiMax, will be able to deliver high speeds, around 70Mbps, over much longer distances, approximately 50km, all without the use of cables. In many countries WiMax is the predominant broadband infrastructure, and it shouldn’t be too long before it becomes as commonplace as Wi-Fi in the UK.

Cable was perhaps the first method of delivering broadband to homes, and the protocol used currently is DOCSIS 1.0 (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification). Version 1.0 is capable of speeds of up to 38Mbps, and a version 3.0 is being trialled in parts of the UK, and noting speeds of 50Mbps. It's hoped that eventually, DOCSIS will deliver around 120Mbps. This system has another advantage; unlike current methods, the connection speed isn't reliant on being close to the local exchange, and speeds should be consistent among all users.

T1 Internet Connection

T1 carrier is one of the most popular leased line options for digital transmission that offers high speed internet connectivity at 1.544Mbits per second. A T1 line is comprised of 24 individual channels, each capable of transferring data at 64Kbits per second. With T1 Internet connection, you can have uninterrupted and reliable data transfer within seconds. In normal phone lines, voices are transmitted through copper wires as analog signal and you can transmit data at around 30 kilobits per seconds with your normal modem. A T1 Internet connection, on the other hand, is capable of carrying 24 digitized voice channels at the speed of 1.544 megabits per second. A T1 carrier can carry 192,000 bytes of data per seconds – nearly sixty times more data than that of a normal residential modem. T1 Internet connection is capable of providing uninterrupted data transmission which you would not get if you use ordinary modems. If you want to transmit audio or visual data through your residential modem or through your phone service you have high risk of getting jammed since the speed is so slow. With a T1 service, you can eliminate this risk significantly.

Internet service by service providers convert all voice calls as analog rather than in digital format, which not only takes longer time but frustrates customers now that high speed is available. With a T1 line, you not only increase the speed of your data transmission, but also save time for your valuable online work. With the advancement of fiber optics, lesser time is required to convert analog signals to digital format. Fiber optical wires are sometimes used for T1 line to provide maximum speed, although the normal wires are by copper. In case of ordinary modem or residential telephone connection, thin copper wire is used which can rarely carry much load at the time of transmission of data. In T1 Internet connection, broadband internet connection is used which ensures two-way transmission of data at a faster rate than any other method of transmission. Apart from that, hundreds of users can comfortably share T1 connection, which is impossible if you use modems or telephone line or an ISDN line. If you are interested in online songs and movies, then you will find the ordinary modem or residential telephone service can not meet your demands, as these lines take hours to convert any MP3 files or video files to analog format and to transmit them at the desired destination. A DSL or cable may be options but a T1 line, if you can afford it, is the best option. For a business of 20 or more employees, a T1 service is required. By implementing T1 circuit, you can easily transmit digital and video data at the required destination at great speed and at the same time, have a T1 service that’s more reliable.

If you have a small business with twenty to twenty five users, T1 Internet connection is most suitable for you. T1 Internet service works better than ordinary business DSL. It is economical to have T1 bandwidth if your business is small in size and internet is critical for your business. A Channel Service Unit (CSU) is used to connect non-data terminal equipment with a T1 Internet connection to get the desired T1 line speed. A CSU is a device which connects a leased line and remains attached to the customer’s system. The main objective of CSU is to encode data, which comes through a broadband T1 line. For the T1 connections, one needs to have a channel service unit.

T1 circuits work simultaneously with your existing phone wires and equipments, though you may require special jacks and connections and some alteration in the wiring to get T1 connection. It is the responsibility of your network service provider to install new wires and equipments according to the requirements. The connection not only runs through conventional metal wires but also runs through fiber optical wires, twisted pair copper wire, coaxial cable, digital microwave, and also through infrared. T1 Internet connection is used for linking remote LAN’s. It can also be utilized to bring Centrex service from the telephone company’s central office to the business areas cost effectively. While DSL is a quick and cost effective medium of acquiring high-speed bandwidth, it is usually not intended to support commercial applications or many users at a time. A T1 Internet connection is the ideal solution. Businesses mainly use two types of Internet access – DSL and T1; and from though DSL is less expensive; it is not as reliable as T1 circuits. For installing T1 service, you need to spend the cost for T1 line price, which would include installation fee, although it is at times waived. Customers have an option to negotiate T1 prices but for this, they need to sign a 2 or 3 year term. Today getting a T1 price is easier than it used to be. In conclusion, to get dedicated high speed internet connectivity you can get a T1 internet service. You can enjoy dedicated, reliable and uninterrupted internet connectivity.

If Gates is right, how much longer for keyboards & mice?

It wasn't exactly `Minority Report' but Bill Gates's technology demonstration at the company's CEO Summit earlier today may be remembered years from now as a harbinger of the end for the keyboard and mouse era. Not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But soon enough.
As Gates demoed a 4-foot-by-6-foot prototype called TouchWall, there was little resemblance to Tom Cruise's futuristic data juggling in that 2002 sci-fi performance as he moved 3-D screens around with simple hand gestures. Making what is likely his last appearance as master of ceremonies at this annual conclave of corporate heavy hitters, Gates used the show-and-tell session to offer a prediction.

in the future, he said, all surfaces will feature "an inexpensive screen display capability and software that sees what you're doing there so that it's completely interactive."

I've been watching Gates give performances like these since 1985 and it's wise to treat his predictions with the appropriate grain of salt. When it comes to Microsoft, the concept of vaporware is not entirely foreign. Still, I found the demo interesting when you consider the topic against the backdrop of what Microsoft is developing in Windows 7. In fact, a couple of months ago, Gates hinted at future support for touch-based gestures and speech recognition in a the post-Vista OS.

Web-Content Conundrum

The Web consumes the contents as a teenager with one all-you-capacity-to eat shake. A good nombr' and a good number of marks satisfy to you more friendly Search Engine, assistances establish your knowledge and appraises, explains in detail what you offer, and justifies this offer with all the explanations, statistics, and reasoning which you can gather. The problem is nobody the bed.

The good that do not rectify exactly: some read each fall of information on your site; they prove precisely right being the tire-pulseurs, the people seeking in the manners of obtaining them with substance that the don't must pay, or of the competitors of they're seeking in the manners of copying what you do, or a worse lucky find something badly. It is certainly a dilemma which must be addressed.

The Answer Lies In The Questions

The answer is obviously not to eliminate all the good stuff you've worked so hard to create, or to bury it where nobody will ever see it. When it comes to Web-content ask yourself:

1. Is our content meaningful and relevant, or is it just hype and bunkum?

2. Is our content understandable by our audience, or is it so inarticulate that people just give up, even when they are desperate to find out what you have to say?

3. Does our content hold our audience's attention? Does it just explain, or does it engage, excite, and entertain while at the same time persuade on both a rationale and emotional level?

4. Is our content so intimidating and technical that it leads to more confusion and questions than answers?

5. Is our most important content buried in volumes of extraneous information or advertising copy, making it difficult to access and understand?

If any of these questions describe the text-based information on your website, then perhaps you need to find a way to make that important information more useful to your clients, not just search engines spiders.

When it comes to website content there are five things you need to keep in mind in order to make that content meaningful: Relevance, Clarity, Effectiveness, Memorability, and Personality.
